Sumara Fireside
Sumara Fireside, an accomplished designer and creative director for an international design organization, has embarked on a transformative journey that began during her MFA thesis. This journey has spanned nearly a decade, seamlessly blending analog and digital mediums, the physical and the spiritual, as well as photography and art. Grounded in fundamental design principles such as scale, balance, color, symmetry, and rhythm, Sumara’s work harmoniously merges her fascination with sacred geometry, objects, artifacts, religious and spiritual practices, anthropology, design and the natural world.
Her creative process results in ephemeral, organic compositions bursting with vibrant, dynamic colors, captured through photography. Central to her series is the theme of change, which has been a constant presence throughout its evolution. Originally utilizing only locally sourced materials, Sumara has since intentionally selected and researched each element, drawing from her own collection of amulets acquired out of curiosity and appreciation for their beauty, as well as materials gathered during her travels.
At times, her works incorporate motion, typography, and sound to create a multi-sensory experience, inviting viewers to engage in moments of meditation and contemplation. Through her art, Sumara encourages us to see the familiar with a fresh perspective, offering a new lens through which to view the world.
